Founded in 1980, the American Society of Perianesthesia Nurses (ASPAN) is a professional organization representing nurses practicing in all phases of pre-anesthesia (patient care before anesthesia is given), post-anesthesia (patient care after anesthesia has been given), pain management, and ambulatory surgery. ASPAN members include staff and head nurses, supervisors, and other related professionals working in hospitals, clinics and private practices.
ASPAN members are primarily female and pay $70 in annual dues. Member
benefits of ASPAN include subscriptions to Breathline and The Journal of Perianesthesia Nursing, certification programs, conferences, and online resources.
